Although the very idea of crossing the water to Fingringhoe or Rowhedge is utterly pointless and fills the average human personage with dread, I guess it’s good to see how the other half live from time to time. So if you’re the sort of weirdo that takes some sort of perverse pleasure from travelling back in time to the 1940s, this news is just for you. This weekend sees the re-opening of Wivenhoe’s ferry service for the summer season.
Like in previous years, salty boatman Bryan (aka slave to love) will be on hand to help you on and off of his waterbound wagon and he’ll be selling a selection of salty snacks and seaman-based drinks – if that’s your thing.
Bryan is pleased to announce that he’s made some updates to the ferry for the 2016 summer season and travellers will be free to enjoy the casino level, 37 swimming pools and 24 different restaurants.
As always, trips across the water are just 50p each, but now take a little longer as the boat has to travel to Mersea in order to turn around.
Average travel time is 3 hours and 45 minutes. Bryan will be casting anchor from 8:45 on Saturday morning. God bless him and all who sail him.
