The good folk of Wivenhoe rather pride themselves on the choice of fine drinking establishments dotted around the town and the good news is that yet another boozer is set to open behind The Bakehouse restaurant this weekend.
A traditional East-end boozer, The Queen Vic will feature a host of lovable rogues, as well as everything you’d expect from such an establishment including punch ups, knees ups and a whole lot of shouting of classic cockney phrases like “You slag!” “Don’t do it Ian” and “Stay away from my Pat!”.
The Watcher was lucky enough to meet up with cheeky chappy Alfie Moon and East-end stunner Kat Slater (age 72) to find out what the new hostelry will be like…
“What makes the Vic different from other boozers is that we haven’t actually got a building as such and there won’t be what you’d call a traditional bar,” explained Alfie, while sporting traditional pink cockney sandles.
“Yeah,” Kat continued, “Cos we’ve got no money we’ll be running it inside this big blue bin. Punters will come and sit inside it and me and Alfie will pass them cans of Special Brew so that they can get sloshed in peace. It’ll be proper authentic, innit.”
The Queen Vic opens on Saturday at 8, so get down there early to avoid the rush.
