If you go down to the woods today, you’re in for a big surprise…
Wivenhoe Mayor Dame Dannii Minogue was delighted to unveil Wivenhoe’s latest crowd pleaser, a 20 foot sculpture by Brit art sensation Damien Hirst.
Called Blue Vein, the incredible marble statue is the latest creation by the art world’s version of Simon Cowell, who revealed to The Watcher “By creating this blue space rocket, I believe I’m highlighting the disconnect between mankind and nature. It’s kind of like a metaphor for how the fat cats are getting us down, man. But I like to think of more as a meta-five – that’s how clever it is”.
Mayor Minogue told The Watcher: “I believe that this fabulous work of art could put Wivenhoe on the map in the same way that Angel Of The North is associated with Clitheroe, or wherever it is. This could be a real game changer.”
The Blue Vein design was picked following a lengthy consultation with Wivenhoe Residents Association, Brightlingsea Chess Club and the bloke that sells fish out of a van by Co-op on Fridays. It successfully managed to beat off rival options which included The Chapman Brothers (Jake and Dino) chicken-based Forty Feet Of Cock, Tracey Emin’s giant gold needle entitled Prick and Sarah Lucus’ Meat and Two Veg.
