Evidence has come to light that much-loved comic writer Stan Lee, who sadly died in November 2018, made his final cameo appearance in the world-famous Wivenhoe branch of Co-op.
Lee who created comicbook superheroes including Batman, The Pink Panther, Scooby Doo and Morph, was famous for making cameo appearances in the bigscreen adaptations of his stories. But perhaps what is less well known is that he supplemented his meagre income by working in Wivenhoe Co-op uttering his infamous catchphrases “Have you got your dividend card?” and “Would you like your receipt” to passersby, even though his sole responsibility was to stand and wave in front of the noticeboard.
Commenting on the revelation, Wivenhoe Mayor Dame Dannii Minogue noted: “I’ve always been a huge fan of Stan’s and Do The Right Thing is one of my favourite films of all time. To think that he touched the lives of both moviegoers and visitors to our own little branch of Co-op reminds me what a wonderful place Wivenhoe is and just how lucky it is to have me as mayor.”
