As the last “He’s behind you!” echoes through the empty William Loveless Hall, the cast and crew of Wivenhoe’s panto for 2018 are finally able to celebrate yet another successful run – this year culminating in a record-breaking seven nominations from the Academy of Motion Picture Artse at this year’s Oscars.
With nods going to Meryl Streep’s incredible performance as Big Bad Boris and Robert De Niro’s heart-warming casting as Dame Edna Average, it’s difficult to believe that this year’s show will fare quite as badly as last year’s at the awards – when the stars of our humble Alice In Wonderland show lost out to Daniel Day-Lewis and James Cordon in Rowhedge’s stunning adaptation of Brokeback Mountain.
This years crowd-pleaser of Goldilocks And The Three Bears got off to something of a rocky start when director Woody Allen was sacked after the cast refused to work with him and Kevin Spacey was replaced with a CGI baby bear as his past digressions came to light. However, the cast pulled together and look set to leave this year’s Academy Awards laden with Oscars. Oh no they don’t, oh yes they do… (repeat to fade).
The full list of nominations that the panto could potentially win include:
Best ‘Oh no it’s not! Oh yes it is!’
